ALUMNI WEEKEND HOURS: FRIDAY & SATURDAY 10 - 4
The Dr. William R. Harvey Museum of Art, located on the campus of historic Talladega College, is home to the Amistad Murals. The Museum hosts temporary exhibits and programs, and the Civil Rights Garden adjacent to the Museum celebrates noted 20th-century Civil Rights leaders.
In 1938, American Artist Hale Woodruff was commissioned to paint a series of murals celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Amistad and the founding of Talladega College. Today, these murals are the centerpiece of the Dr. William R. Harvey Museum.
The Civil Rights Garden, located within the courtyard adjacent to the Museum, is a contemplative space for guests to honor the legacy of six icons of the Civil Rights Movement and to remember the role of Talladega College in the struggle for Civil Rights.
Ongoing programs, special exhibitions, and events continue the stories and themes depicted in the murals. From The Mutiny of the Amistad to The Building of the Savery Library, the 100-year journey of freedom and opportunity continues today.
